Dr. Robert Ricart, OD

ricartDr. Robert Ricart, OD joined the practice of Dr. Robert Leitenberger in the G.Daniel Baldwin Bldg. Erie, Pa. in 1981. Dr. Ricart received his doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Philadelphia, PA. in 1981, passing the State Boards in that same year. The practice moved to 300 State St, Erie, PA. in 1985 and is presently located there as Bayfront Eyecare.

At the Pennsylvania College of Optometry Dr.Ricart was a teaching assistant in contact lenses and also interned at the Eye Institute. Dr. Ricart also interned with respected contact lens diplomat Shahane Kirman in Hummelstown, PA. Dr. Robert Johnson Latrobe, PA. as well as the eye clinic of Kimbrough Army Hospital, Fort Meade, MD.

His speciality interests involve working with hard to fit contact lens patients and helping contact lens "drop outs" be successful. He has been in the fore-front in utilizing the the latest contact lens designs and lens care options. He has been a pioneer in the Erie area fitting rigid gas permeable multifocal lenses, and soft multifocal designs. He especially enjoys working with the newest hybrid contact lenses, as well as, scleral contact lenses for improving patient comfort and vision. Patient's benefiting from these lenses include those with keratoconus, corneal grafts, pellucid marginal degeneration and irregular astigmatism.


Dr. Douglas J. Villella, OD

villellaDouglas J. Villella, OD joined the practice of Dr. Robert Ricart and Dr. Robert Leitenberger in 1987 after completing four years in the military. As part of his commitment to being accepted into the Health Professions Scholarship Program, Dr. Villella served as a Captain and optometrist in the US Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

Dr. Villella received his optometry degree at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (now called Salius University) and his undergraduate degree in biology at St Bonaventure University.

For the past 20 years he has been on staff at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital providing consultations on patients who have suffered vision complications after traumatic brain injury.

He is the sole optometrist on staff at Community Health Net for the past 23 years providing eye care to the uninsured and homeless patients of the region.


Dr. David Cage, OD

cageDr. David Cage, OD is a Gannon University graduate and Erie native. He earned his doctorate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2004. He practiced with Scott Griffith, M.D., until 2009 when he joined Bayfront Eyecare. He resides in Greene Township with his wife Bethany and sons Gavin and Hudson.

At the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Cage was a clinical tutor and a member of the school's judicial board. He received Clinical Excellence awards in Ocular Disease, Low Vision, Pediatrics, and Contact Lenses. Dr. Cage is board certified to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and Lion's Club, and currently serves as a board member for the Sight Center of Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Special interests include Diabetes, Ocular Disease, Glaucoma, Age Related Macular Degeneration, Ocular Emergencies, Dry Eye Syndrome, Contact Lenses, and High Prescriptions.


Dr. Cassandra Fox, OD

foxDr. Cassandra Fox, OD is originally from Middletown, Ohio (just north of Cincinati). She graduated cum laude from Gannon University with her undergraduate degree in biology in 2009. She then graduated from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2013. While at Ohio State, she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. She is currently a member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association and American Optometric Association.

Along with primary care, she has an interest in contact lenses, pediatrics, ocular disease, and surgical co-management. She is the sole optometrist in Erie and surrounding counties who specializes in low vision and completes exams for patients at the Sight Center of Northwestern Pennsylvania. These patients have macular degeneration, end-stage glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, visual disturbances from strokes, or retinitis pigmentosa to name a few.

Aside from optometry she enjoys running and spending time with her husband John and their golden retriever.

Convenient Location

We are located in the Bayfront Professional Building between 3rd and 4th Streets on State Street. Patients should park in the reserved parking area behind the building via 4th Street and bring their parking stubs to our office for validation. Entering the Bayfront Professional Building from the reserved lot will place you on the second floor of the facility. Our office is the first on the right.

Your Emergency Is Our Emergency

Call our office at 814.454.6517 anytime to be directed to emergency numbers. We want to be the first place you call with any eye problem. State of the art microscopes allow us to examine the eye and facial areas around the eye for infection, foreign bodies or injury. After assessing the situation, a treatment plan will be formulated and explained to you. Follow-up visits will be scheduled as needed.
